Reconciliation and First Communion
Your child must be enrolled in the Faith Formation
program or a Catholic School
before preparing for these sacraments. First Eucharist is a sacrament of
initiation; it is important that your child is an active member of the parish
community into which he or she is being initiated. We ask that your child
have regular attendance at both Mass and Faith Formation classes for a least one
year prior to receiving the Sacrament.
Parents will take on a greater role in preparing their
children for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. We will provide
materials and any assistance you may need. To help you get started with the
preparation, we will have two evening gatherings for parents only.
The first evening will focus on Reconciliation. You will then have five to
six weeks to work with your child at home. We ask that your child
celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation during this time, either at regular
reconciliation offered on Saturdays from 9:00 - 10:00 AM or by appointment with
Father Tom or Father Justin.
The second evening session will focus on Eucharist.
Once again you will have five to six weeks to work with your child. At the end
of this time, the family will come together for a retreat day. Upon completion
of the retreat, your child will be ready to receive the Sacrament of First
Eucharist. You will have an opportunity to schedule your preferred Mass time
and day through the Faith Formation office.
Note:
There is a mandatory Meeting
for parents of all students receiving First Reconciliation/First Eucharist on
Sunday, September 21 at 10:15 AM in Church
for an in depth explanation of the preparation process and to sign up for your
track.
