The year 2020 has been and continues to be a year of change. The mandate to go and make disciples of Jesus Christ is one thing that has not changed with the onset of COVID-19.
After a survey of our faith formation families and catechists, along with the recommendations provided by the Diocese or Orlando, we have determined that the best faith formation option is to provide a revised model of our existing Family Faith Formation program to our Pre-K to 7th grade students and their families. This revised Family Faith Formation program will be offered either on-line or in person and will take place once per month on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings.
Families may register for in person classes. These classes will take place in the Parish Center on one Sunday of the month. Each family will have their own socially distant table and each group of families will have an assigned catechist. In addition to a family lesson, we will provide instruction to parents for the lessons to be completed at home during the remainder of the month while the catechist helps the students with an activity, craft, or game. The assigned catechist will also be in contact with their assigned families via email or telephone to assist with the at-home portion of the program. A Parent Guide will be provided to each family and an activity workbook or grade level workbook will be provided to each student.
Families opting for on-line learning will need to be able to attend real time Zoom sessions. These may take place as part of a Sunday morning or Wednesday evening live session, or as a class of exclusively on-line families, depending on how many families choose this option.
Our 8th grade Faith Formation will be done in a virtual setting to start the year. 8th grade Faith Formation students will meet on Sunday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm on Zoom. Students will engage in interactive teaching with videos, discussions, and other activities.
Our 9th-12th grade Youth Ministry/Faith Formation will start out in a virtual setting for the year. We will be using a small group ministry approach to allow the students the opportunity to connect and build relationships as they share and grow in their faith together. Students will gather on Zoom from 6:00-7:30 pm on Sunday evenings. Students will begin the gathering as a large group all together, and then will be broken out into small groups for the remainder of the evening. Small groups will stay consistent from week to week to give the students the opportunity to get to know each other as they learn and share together. We are excited about this opportunity to form community in small group setting this year.
Registration forms are now available on this website and may be printed, completed, and turned into the Faith Formation Office. Paper copies are available in the Narthex of the church, in the Parish Office, and in the Faith Formation Office
Sacramental Preparation for 2020-2021
Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation will take place beginning this fall. Please indicate on the Faith Formation registration form which sacrament your student will be receiving. Families will be contacted regarding their choice of on-line or in person preparation, and sessions will be structured accordingly.
Preparation for First Reconciliation will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings of the month beginning September 30th. Confirmation sessions will take place the first Sunday evening of each month beginning October 4th.
If you have any questions about our Faith Formation program, please contact JoAnn Elder or Wanda Chandia at the Faith Formation Office.
