On this first Sunday of Lent we will be celebrating the Rite of Sending with our catechumens at the 9 a.m. Mass where they will come forward and sign their names in the Book of the Elect. (Catechumens are those individuals who have been preparing to come into the Roman Catholic Church by being baptized, confirmed, and receiving First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil Mass.) They will then join me as we make our way to the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe to join Bishop John Noonan for the Rite of Election. Once there, they will be presented to the bishop by their sponsors as having been properly prepared for their reception into the Church. For the remainder of Lent, our newly “Elect” will continue to be dismissed at the 9 a.m. Mass each Sunday after the homily to meet with one another and Break Open the Word of God together with their catechists. Please join me in praying for them as they open their hearts to receive the grace of God during this penitential season. We look forward to the day that we can embrace them as fully initiated members of the Body of Christ.

At 10:30 a.m. you are invited to join our students in church as they help us pray the
Stations of the Cross during our
LentenFamily Event Sunday. Family Event Sundays provide our families and parishioners opportunities to participate and enjoy the same kinds of devotional activities and faith related events as those who attend the Catholic schools in our diocese.
Sacramental Preparation Reminder: Classes for First Eucharist have now started. There are three remaining Monday night sessions (Mar. 6, Mar. 27, & Apr. 3). Please contact the faith formation office concerning missed classes.
